'JOINT DEPARTURE' BY MARC MüLLER AND NIELS STAATS AT POST-PROJECTS

03.03.10

PoSt-projects is announcing Joint Departure, a collaborative project between the artists Marc Müller and Niels Staats. For Joint Departure Marc and Niels intend to utilise the architecture at PoSt-projects as a temporary container/structure that encloses their residency. Within this containment, results from their month long co-operation are allowed to accumulate. Working together for the first time, their collaborative project will explore imaginary worlds- both futuristic and historic.

Marc Müller is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His installations and drawings investigate a desire for order in our built environment. In an effort to satisfy this desire, Marc proposes designs for a more complete organisation of our environment, thereby radically removing human interference. In December 2009 Marc completed a residency at Kunsteyssen: Centre for Contemporary Art, in Alkmaar and most recently exhibited at Mondriaan museum in Amersfoort, both of these institutes are in the Netherlands. Marc Müller is represented by Ron Mandos, a gallery in Amsterdam.

Niels Staats develops work from specific spatial and architectural locations, by exploring their social and historical situation. Often taking on the form of sculptural interventions, Niels’ work subtly creates alternative perceptions of these locations by copying and/or re-introducing visual elements from his discoveries. In April of this year, Niels will take part in Transit\ion in Kolkata, India. Transit\ion is a collaborative, process-based art project that encourages the exchange of ideas between artists from different cultural backgrounds. Niels Staats lives and works in London and started PoSt-projects together with Nicola Pomery in July 2009.

PoSt-projects will host two public events in support of Joint Departure. The first event, Voyagers, will take place on Friday 19 March at 7pm. Voyagers is a public radio transmission, inspired by the Golden Records that were sent into interstellar space in 1977. The second event on Friday 26 March from 6pm, will present the accumulated works from Marc Müller and Niels Staats’ residency. PoSt-projects will also be open for visitors during the weekend of 27 – 28 March, from 12 – 6pm.

PoSt-projects is an artist-run project space situated in the basement of an old police station close to the New Cross rail link, in South East London. The project space functions as a temporary workspace facilitating six experimental art-projects a year.
