In 2010 Stefan Peters introduced his latest project: Google Earth Series. A series of circular paintings of landscapes.
Starting from images he finds on Google Earth, Stefan Peters is painting those landscapes, although not realistically. In a unique way the landscapes are represented as a kind of dioramas (scale models with painted backgrounds)
The world is presented as a model, an interior or a film set. Stefan Peters examines and accentuates how reality and its representation are related to each other, how a surrogate world takes form by replacing reality, this to achieve certain goals in human perception and its existence.
The round shape of his paintings is easily associated with a peephole or spyglass through which the world is looked at.
The eye of the spectator is drawn into the circular form and remains easily in the painting. On the other hand the circular enclosed form also creates a certain distance between the landscape and the spectator.
