MARGRIET SMULDERS

BUSSUM, NETHERLANDS, 1955

Margriet Smulders composes flower still-lives with an edge. The viewer is invited to lose herself in the wondrous expression of flowers, voluptuous glass forms and animals. After closer inspection these expressions reveal a multitude of hidden torments and references to mythology and the work of the Old Masters.

Margriet Smulders has enjoyed marked success presenting her work in a range of different solo shows throughout the Netherlands. Her work is included in a number of high profile collections such as that of the Bonnefanten Art Collection, Maastricht (NE) and the Prinsenhof Museum, Delft (NE).
